Who can I contact?

At JMU, there are a wide range of support services you can turn to, depending entirely on your own needs and preferences.

You can get in touch anonymously via the Safespace portal. Here, you can report an incident to our team online without providing any personal details, or submit a request for advice and receive confidential counselling from the relevant staff members.

The counsellors at the support centre are bound by a duty of confidentiality and are not subject to any instructions.

During an initial consultation

we help you to assess your experiences and find a personalised way of dealing with them.
We will outline your options for action, discuss possible forms of support and, where appropriate, put you in touch with suitable counselling services.
We will inform you about the possibility of making an official report and the associated case management. Should you decide to make a report, we will support you throughout the process.

Important: During an initial consultation, you can assess your situation together with us, discuss possible courses of action and find out about available support options. You decide for yourself what information you wish to share during the consultation.

Please note, however, that the University is obliged to take action due to its duty of care and protection as soon as you mention the name of the person against whom the allegation is made during the counselling session.

As well as contacting staff at the Contact Point anonymously via the portal, the University has also appointed specific contact points for questions relating to sexual harassment, whom you can approach in confidence. These contact persons are also bound by a duty of confidentiality and are not subject to any instructions from superiors.

Andrea Bähr has extensive experience in various counselling contexts. She is a first aider for psychological first aid and is currently training to become a systemic counsellor.

Eva Enders is a psychologist and is currently completing her training as a depth psychology-based and psychoanalytical psychotherapist. She also brings experience in counseling from her volunteer work with an association against sexual violence against girls and women.
