International Rankings

Academic rankings have repeatedly confirmed JMU’s strong national and international performance:

The internationally renowned Shanghai Ranking (2024) ranks the University of Würzburg among the three most research-intensive universities in Bavaria, the twelve best in Germany, and among the 300 best worldwide.

The 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking currently ranks JMU 163rd globally and 16th nationally.
The most recent release of the Nature Index (2023) underlines JMU's particular research strength in the natural and life sciences: JMU is ranked 147th place globally and 8th place in Germany.

Once again, several researchers from the University of Würzburg are among the "Highly Cited Researchers". In 2024, four professors make the list. Their work is frequently cited by colleagues worldwide. Read more
