Prize for student commitment
For the first time, the University of Würzburg awarded the new prize for student commitment, endowed with 1,000 euros, at its Foundation Festival 2025. This is based on the realisation "that student commitment is not only important for the students, but also for the university and its further development," said JMU Vice President Andreas Dörpinghaus, who gave the laudatory speech.

Kayn Gaus has been an outstanding advocate for the interests of students at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. Between 2019 and 2024, Kayn Gaus shaped numerous committees and initiatives through her continuous commitment to higher education policy - always with the aim of making structures fairer, more inclusive and more sustainable. In the 2019/2020 academic year, Kayn Gaus was an elected member of the Student Speakers' Council (SSR) and took on responsibility for the "Equality, Social Affairs and Sustainability" department.When the COVID-19 pandemic led to far-reaching restrictions and changes in everyday student life in spring 2020, Kayn Gaus developed a comprehensive digital information platform on the student's representation website. In the academic years 2020 to 2022, Kayn Gaus also represented the student body as an elected member of the Senate and University Council and was involved in the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Sustainability Commission. In addition, Kayn Gaus was a member of the university's coronavirus task force from 2021 - and remained a member until the end of the pandemic. A particular milestone was the founding and two-and-a-half-year co-management of the Queer:feminism department in 2021. In the 2023/2024 academic year, Kayn Gaus finally took over as Chair of the Student Parliament and in this position made a significant contribution to the coordination and further development of the student interest group and its structures.
