How to Enrol Online in Programmes/Subjects with Unrestricted Admission

The enrolment period will start

  • on 20 July for winter intake
  • around mid-February for summer intake

During the respective periods, you will find a link at the bottom of this page that will take you to the enrolment portal.

The procedure described here is for students who want to enrol in the first or in a higher subject semester.

German nationals as well as foreign nationals holding a German higher education entrance qualification will be able to enrol via the web portal of the University of Würzburg. Applicants from EU countries other than Germany as well as other foreign nationals will have to contact the International Office of the University.

You will not be able to apply for a change of degree subjects or permission to study for two degrees via the enrolment portal.

If you want to apply for a change of degree programmes/subjects or permission to study for two degrees, please download and complete the respective form and hand it in in person or send it to us in the post.

Before you enrol in a higher subject semester, please consult with the competent Examination Office regarding credit transfer.

Am I eligible to enrol?

You are eligible to enrol provided that there are no admission restrictions in place for the degree programme as well as any of the subjects (in Bachelor's and teaching degree programmes) you want to study.

If admission restrictions are in place, you will only be able to enrol if you have received a letter of admission!!!

If you are enrolled in a programme at the University of Würzburg already and merely want to change to another degree programme or subject (with unrestricted admission), you will not have to submit this application for enrolment. Simply re-enrol and submit an application for a change of degree programmes or subjects to Student Affairs (Studierendenkanzlei), Hubland Nord, Oswald-Külpe-Weg 84 (door on the right), 97074 Würzburg. Please note that you must submit that application by four weeks after the lecture period has started.

The enrolment procedure:

  • Please start out by registering to the web portal of the University of Würzburg and entering your personal details.
(Please note that you must register anew each semester; registrations from previous semesters are deleted on data protection grounds.)
Once you have done so, you will be sent an email with a link for you to complete the registration process.
(If you do not receive this email, please check your spam folder.)

Please make sure you do not lose your user name and password; you will need them to be able to log in to the application portal of the University of Würzburg.

  • Once the registration process has been completed, please select a degree programme and enter the remaining details that are required for the enrolment procedure,
  • print out two copies of your application for enrolment (one for the University and one for your records),
  • return one copy to the University of Würzburg along with the documents listed on the printout, and
  • transfer the semester fees to the account of the University (see application for enrolment for the exact amount due),
  • done...
The enrolment process will be completed once the University of Würzburg has received your application for enrolment and supporting documents, your semester fees have been credited to the account of the University, and the respective checks and reviews have been completed. After the process has been completed, a confirmation email will be sent to the address you specified in your documents. You will need that email to be able to activate your JMU account and student ID card. If you did not receive the email, please check your spam folder. You might have to disable auto-deletion of spam messages.

Implementation of Bayerisches Hochschulinnovationsgesetz (Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act, BayHIG) requires the University of Würzburg to collect the data which is collected in the enrolment form.
