Geography and Political and Social Studies, 5th semester
Having been part of last year’s delegation has given me so much. I learned a lot, about world politics but also about myself, developed valuable skills and made really close friends. The intense preparation for representing a completely unknown country was extremely enriching as well and made me develop an understanding for the situation in Central Africa that I would never have gotten otherwise.
After profiting from this chance last year, I feel it to be my responsibility to give something back and make this experience possible for a new “generation”. Participating in Model United Nations conferences is a great opportunity for young people to develop an understanding for the global problems of our time. The participants also get to develop many soft skills that will be helpful for future careers. But most of all, it will allow them to make valuable experiences that will accompany them for the rest of their lives.
I am really happy that I can contribute to making all this possible for the new delegation. I hope to share my experience from last year in order to allow them to make the best of their own participation. I am really looking forward to seeing this group of great young people grow with the coming challenges - personally and as a delegation - and I am glad that I can be part of their journey.
Political and Social Studies, 7th semester
After I participated in the last year’s delegation of 2018/19, I discovered how much this project has changed me. NMUN is a fascinating possibility to learn and to change your perspective. The decision to become one of the coaches for this year’s delegation was therefore an easy one for me! In the next few months I would like to support every single delegate to achieve their individual best, whether this means having a lot of fun and gaining a lot of experiences or winning every price possible. By helping to create a positive and encouraging atmosphere in the group I would like to ensure that everybody can learn and grow at their own pace.
As a coach I also wish to make sure that every delegate leaves their comfort zone once in a while and that the group itself stays curious and open minded. For me personally I also aspire to learn how to share my knowledge and my experiences in a kind, useful and fun way. In my opinion this year’s delegation will get far because of their motivated, committed and respectful members.
My wish for every single delegate would be that they make a lot of unique experiences and that they will always remember and cherish these crazy times that are about to come!

"Everything will be all right - you know when? When people, just people, stop thinking of the United Nations as a weird Picasso abstraction and see it as a drawing they made themselves.“ (Dag Hammarskjöld)
As I already said last year, the UN gets criticized daily, but this organization works day by day to solve problems all over the world to guarantee world peace and international security. The UN is a complex system, but without the UN our world would look different. Our world has too many problems, ranging from human rights violations, poverty and inequalities of all kinds to climate change, which we can only solve together. The UN is the only forum in the world in which almost all countries of the world can debate global issues and find solutions together. A forum in which all cultures meet. I believe in organizations like the UN, because we can only together put an end to the suffering in the world.
After having participated as a delegate last year and not only learned a lot about international relations, the UN, and the DR Congo, I am happy to stand aside the NMUN delegation 2020. Even though at first glance the project sounds like an elitist project, I fully support it, because you not only learn a lot about the UN and international politics, but also a lot about yourself. I got to know myself better and made great new friends that I would never want to miss again, and I broke out of my comfort zone.
It will be an exciting year and I am very happy to be able to support this year's delegation and to share with them my experiences from last year. It is a very motivated delegation that has a lot of fun with this project. Each one of them deserves to be part of the whole and each one gives his/her best to grow beyond himself/herself. There is a lot of potential in everyone and everyone unfolds in their own way. It is nice to see how much they grow together as a group and how I can still learn a lot from them myself. I feel honoured to be part of the delegation and to get to know them all better. They face the great challenge of representing Rwanda in New York, which is a very interesting country. We need more young people who are committed to the problems of this world and try to understand the world and the UN.
Let's start this adventure again - and guys you will rock that!
