Mental health issues among students

Monday, 23.06.2025, 13:30-17:00 and Monday, 07.07.2025, 13:30-17:00, online

Lecturer: Prof. Dr Jörg Wolstein

Introduction to the problem using case studies; basic features of psychopathology (symptoms, syndromes and diagnoses); mental illnesses and their progression: Depression, psychoses, addiction, eating disorders, personality disorders. Secondary consequences of mental illness (suicidal tendencies, anxiety, especially exam anxiety, procrastination); relevance for studies and exams; possibilities for intervention in everyday university life; institutions to which students can be referred.

In the seminar, the speaker will give a short input on each of the above-mentioned topics, then case studies will be discussed (participants are also welcome to provide case descriptions)

Participants should be able to recognise symptoms of mental illness in students and know the background to mental abnormalities and the associated clinical pictures.

Finally, they should develop skills in dealing with students who display mental health problems.
