‘Promotion inklusive’ (inclusive doctorate) project

As part of the project "PROMI – Promotion inklusive", a total of 45 university graduates with a disability were given the opportunity to complete a doctorate. Between 2013 and 2015, 15 additional half-time positions were created each year for academic staff at 15 partner universities throughout Germany. The doctoral positions are 3-year employment relationships subject to social security contributions. The advantage: the doctoral candidates were financially secure and there was a legal entitlement to necessary professional rehabilitation services.
Prof Dr Mathilde Niehaus and Prof Dr Thomas Kaul from the University of Cologne were responsible for managing the project as well as the scientific monitoring and evaluation. Cooperation partners were the Employer Service for Severely Disabled Academics of the ZAV of the Federal Employment Agency and the Business Forum, which acts as a bridge to industry. The project was funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
