Admissions Lottery

If and when places on restricted admission degree programmes remain or become available after the admission procedure has been completed, these will be allocated by the University by lottery. All applicants are eligible to participate in the admissions lottery including those who were already offered a place on another degree programme or at another university.

If you want to participate in the admissions lottery, please submit a short application via the University’s application portal. That portal will be live during the relevant application periods. Applications not submitted via our web portal will not be considered. The University will not check whether you are really eligible for admission to the University of Würzburg. Your documents will not be reviewed until you were made an offer of admission and want to enrol at the University. Before you submit your lottery application, please check whether the higher education entrance qualification you hold qualifies you for admission to the University of Würzburg. Holders of an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences do not(!) qualify for admission to the University of Würzburg.
Information on required higher education entrance qualification

If you have obtained your higher education entrance qualification abroad, you must provide proof of preliminary examination documentation (VPD) from uni-assist and sufficient knowledge of German when enrolling in the lottery procedure (Attention! Applies to the lottery procedure for all applicants with a foreign , also for the degree programs Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy). If you do not do so, you will not be enrolled. Since the processing time at uni-assist can take approx. 6 weeks, you must apply for the VPD in good time before the start of the application deadline for the lottery procedure. Participation in the DSH examination is no longer possible at this late stage.
Information for holders of certificates issued by non-German institutions

If there are places remaining after the admission procedure has been completed, the remaining places for the first subject semester will be allocated by lottery. Admissions lottery will usually start in mid‑April or, respectively, mid‑October at the earliest. Lottery will end as soon as all places on the respective programmes have been allocated but no later than 4 weeks after the lecture period has started. We are not able to provide information on exact start and end dates or the progress of the lottery.

Notifications of admission or rejection are not sent by post. Notification that the admission procedure has been completed will be sent by email. Applicants are obliged to check their admission result independently and on their own responsibility via the application portal and to print out their admission or rejection letter. If no lottery procedure takes place, no notifications will be issued.

    For a winter semester: 1st to 10th of October
    For a summer semester: 1st to 10th of April

Applicants for the “Academic Speech Therapy/Logopaedics” course should note that, in addition to the lottery application, it is essential that aptitude has been established by the vocational school and that a training contract has been concluded. Otherwise it is not possible to graduate.
