The organizing committee is happy to welcome you to the 1st International Conference of the Würzburg Initiative 3R (WI3R) on the 5-7th of June 2024 at the Rudolf Virchow Center in Würzburg (Germany).

The further development and implementation of the 3R principles is a central task of biomedical research. The research location Würzburg has meanwhile become a nucleus of 3R research, in particular with regard to novel in-vitro models for infectious diseases and oncology, within the state of Bavaria and beyond. WI3R bundles the Bavarian activities in the field of 3R from science, regulatory authorities and industrial networks with existing 3R centers in Germany, Europe and worldwide.

The event is co-organized by the Fraunhofer TLC-RT, the DFG-funded SFB/TRR 225, the SFB1583/CRC Decide and the GRK2157/RTG 3D-Infect of University and University Hospital Würzburg as a joint event. In particular, the SFB/TRR 225 Collaborative Research Center is interested in exploring the fundamentals of biofabrication and its systematic exploitation with the aim to generate functional human tissue models. The GRK2157 and SFB1583 networks focus on the development of 3D tissue models for infection research.

Within the 1st WI3R symposium the German Research Foundation (DFG) will grant the 20th anniversary of the Ursula M. Händel Animal Welfare Prize. The Ursula M. Händel Prize recognizes scientists who have made exemplary and sustained efforts to improve the welfare of animals in research.

Registration period: September 30, 2023 - 12:59 until June 4, 2024 - 00:00

Submission period: September 30, 2023 - 12:59 until April 15, 2024 - 00:00
