Feedback

Here is some feedback on the mentoring programme from mentors and mentees in previous cohorts.

Mentor: Moritz Heupel

Moritz Heupel: "In my view, a mentoring programme thrives on the rapport between the pairs. So far, this has always been the case with my long-term mentees, and it has led to fruitful discussions and even concrete opportunities."

Mentee: Amelie Wierer

Amelie Wierer: "I have already got in touch with my mentor and we had an insightful initial meeting. During that meeting, my mentor also offered me an internship, which I can do with him starting this spring and most likely will."

Mentor: Michael Schaub

Michael Schaub: "I am currently satisfied with how the mentoring programme is going. I regularly discuss matters with Johanna Schmidt, and she is keen to share her experiences."

Mentee: Laércio Alves da Silva Neto

Laércio Alves da Silva Neto: "The programme was good; I had a great online session with my mentor."

Supervisor: Dr Christian Gampe

Dr Christian Gampe: "I’ve had a very positive experience with the mentoring programme. I still have regular meetings with my first mentee, whereas my second mentee only needed support for a short period.

That’s absolutely fine with me, and I’m happy to adapt to the mentees’ needs. I’ve also asked for feedback regularly to find out what’s most helpful for both of them. It might be worth your while to check in with both partners regularly (perhaps annually?) to see how things are going and to mediate if necessary.”

Mentee: Jakob Hecker

Jakob Hecker: "So far in the mentoring programme, I’ve had two mentors from the banking and insurance sectors who have been incredibly supportive – whether it’s been with career advice, choosing a specialisation, or very practical help with job applications and work placements. I’ll soon even have a third mentor who will be supporting me on the ground as I take the next step abroad.

I’m very grateful for this, as the support has been really helpful and the mentors are doing this on a voluntary basis – the exchange has not only been a great help to me, but also very enriching.”

Mentor: Bernd Messerschmidt

Bernd Messerschmidt: "The mentoring programme gives students an insight into their future careers and enables them to take a critical look at their career aspirations and expectations."

Mentee: Lars Willen

Lars Willen: "The conversation took place back in the spring or summer; it was extremely interesting and provided many fascinating insights."

Dr Christian Seynstahl

Dr Christian Seynstahl: "The mentoring programme is an enriching experience for me because it gives me the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and experience whilst learning from the students’ fresh perspectives. I am particularly impressed by my mentee, who is forging her own path with great determination and curiosity. It gives me great pleasure to support her as she transitions from university to working life and to engage in a dialogue with her as an equal."

Mentee: Bastian Klodewig

Bastian Klodewig: "We get on well, and my mentor was able to give me some good advice on career planning after I’ve finished my Master’s thesis. We’ve arranged two meetings to discuss job opportunities and the job search, and another to talk about the possibilities of a PhD scholarship.
All in all, I already had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do after my Master’s, and my mentor was able to help me with a few minor details, so I’m very happy with the mentoring.”

Mentor: Christoph Schalk

Christoph Schalk: "I owe what I do and who I am professionally today to the many mentors who have passed on their knowledge and experience to me. That’s why mentoring is practically in my DNA, and I too would like to guide and support people who want to develop further through mentoring."

Mentee: Dr Paula Weber

Dr Paula Weber: "I found the alumni mentoring programme to be a very positive and helpful experience. Despite the physical distance, the dialogue with my mentor, Elisabeth Krug, was straightforward and motivating. I find it particularly helpful that the mentoring programme also addresses the expectations and motivation of the mentors. Overall, I would highly recommend the programme."

Mentee: Yi-Chun Chen

Yi-Chun Chen: "I am truly grateful for the support I have received through the mentoring programme. The regular meetings with my mentor are like little mental boosters for me: inspiring, motivating and often exactly what I need at that moment to gain new perspectives. The conversations give me direction and help me see my path more clearly.

And that is exactly why I wholeheartedly recommend the programme: the insights I gain here are not just helpful – they are unique. It is a space for honest exchange, personal growth and new ideas. Thank you so much for that!"
