The Music Mentorship Project
Numerous patrons were found to support the creation of replicas of musical instruments, with a view to putting together a special exhibition at the Martin von Wagner Museum entitled “MUS-IC-ON”. The aim was to use the instruments and music to highlight and reinforce cultural connections and international solidarity. At the same time, the exhibition sought to bring long-forgotten sounds – from antiquity, for example – back to life.
The exhibition, featuring the instruments, loaned items and modern sound equipment, was conceived by colleagues from various disciplines at the university; the replica musical instruments will remain on long-term display at the Martin von Wagner Museum in the Residenz, one of Europe’s largest university museums. The instruments are also to be used after the exhibition, for example in workshops for school classes.
A series of concerts took place as part of the special exhibition. The concert in the Toscanasaal of the Residenz was organised by our partners from the departments of Archaeology, Music and Ancient Oriental Studies. The ‘Stone Age – Harp Music and Ethereal Sounds’ concerts offered a unique opportunity to experience surprising and new sounds.
