1000 Years of Rottendorf

On Sunday, 12 November 2023, at 2.30 pm, the CSU Rottendorf held its “storytelling coffee morning” in the Neureuther Hall at Rottendorf railway station. In anticipation of the major anniversary “1000 Years of Rottendorf” in 2025, I gave a digital slide presentation. Many thanks to the First Chairman of the CSU Rottendorf, Mr Robert Geulich, for the invitation. I look forward to interesting discussions about the history of Rottendorf.

Würzburg Fishermen’s Guild – Fish Market

Today, the Würzburg Fishermen’s Guild’s traditional fish market took place once again at the Vierröhrenbrunnen. It was another great success, with many visitors able to sample fried Meefischli and other fish delicacies or purchase a variety of fish.
Many thanks to the many helpers from the Fishermen’s Guild who worked tirelessly. As an honorary member of the guild, one can only be proud of these ladies and gentlemen.

Of course, I will also introduce the former market gardens of Sanderau, the ferry across the Main, the origins of the Sebastian Kneipp Footbridge and notable figures from the district.

Exhibition at Galerie Seib

The exhibition “Veo Wurzburgo” by Alvaro Fernandez Saez can be seen until 13 November 2023 at the Teresita Seib Photography and Art Gallery at Neubaustraße 22 in Würzburg. It opened on 13 October 2023 in the presence of the artist. He hails from the beautiful city of Ávila in Spain and now lives and works as an art restorer in Würzburg. An exhibition well worth seeing!

125 years of the Schlosshotel Steinburg

Postcard of Steinburg Castle from the collection of Willi Dürrnagel – marking the 125th anniversary of its opening as a restaurant. It was built by Peter Schneider based on plans by Andreas Pfannes. The wine merchant, Kommerzienrat J. Wilhelm Meuschel, also ran it for a number of years. In 1937, Hans Bezold acquired it from the Bürgerspitalstiftung and had it redesigned by the architect Spiegel, with the tall tower being removed. In 1951, it passed to his son Franz Bezold.

The 'Alte Mainbrücke'

The 'Alte Mainbrücke' is the oldest bridge of Würzburg crossing the Main river and has always been a popular meeting spot, as the picture postcard of 1953 showcases - back then, the bridge was still open to motorised vehicles. The photo is part of the extensive collection of picture postcards of Willi Dürrnagel.

AUDIMAX, University building at the 'Sanderring', 1945

Shortly before the end of the Second World War, approximately 90% of the city centre of Würzburg was destroyed, including the auditorium 'Audimax'. Only six months later, the auditorium was partly reopened for teaching. #jmu #würzburg #secondworldwar
