Science Slam 2018
This year we had two science slams in store!
Once again this year, the audience was treated to a fantastic atmosphere with incisive, interesting talks from a wide variety of fields, presented in everyday language. The Alumni Office was delighted to bring science out of the laboratories and libraries and into the real world, and to share an evening of great entertainment with the audience alongside the scientific content.
The Science Slam puts the competitors’ research in the spotlight and bridges the gap between science and entertainment. The seven participants explain the topics they are researching in entertaining and accessible talks. Cartoons, experiments, live singing – in this short scientific presentation tournament, anything goes to elicit the loudest applause from the audience.

Science Slam on 9 November 2018
On 9 November 2018, this year’s Science Slam took place at Z6 in Hubland. Six slammers gave entertaining seven-minute presentations on their respective fields. We congratulate our winner, Prof. Dr Mario Fischer, who gave us all an insight into the world of e-commerce and showed us how even the big players can shoot themselves in the foot. We would also like to extend our warmest thanks to our other slammers for taking part, as well as to our host and the audience for a fantastic, entertaining evening, and we hope to welcome you all back again next year!

The evening was opened by last year’s Science Slam winner, Prof. Hans-Georg Weigand, Mathematics, University of Würzburg.
Johannes Keppner from Radio Gong once again hosted the evening for us this year.

This year, the Science Slam made a stopover!
As part of the State Garden Show, we presented four 7-minute slots of entertaining science in collaboration with the City of Würzburg and the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt.
Our four slammers were Jochem Larsen, Prof. Zieschang, Dr Manuela Scheuermann and Felix Pfeil.
We were delighted by your keen interest and the large turnout, and hope to see you all again at our Science Slam in November!
