Science Slam 2017

We would like to congratulate the winner, Prof. Hans-Georg Weigand (Mathematics), who received the loudest applause of the evening for his piece entitled ‘How Mathematicians Think’, and we would like to thank all the slammers and our host Johannes Keppner once again for their entertaining contributions!

Our slammers were:

Judith Gabel, Physics, JMU

Prof. Frank Zieschang, Law, JMU,
'Career paths for lawyers – or: keep your eyes open when choosing a career!'

Jochem Larsen, Politics & History, Staatlicher Hofkeller
'Life is one big … event'

Felix Pfeil, Marketing, JMU
'Customer Journey'

Prof. Hans-Georg Weigand, Mathematics, JMU
'How Mathematicians Think'

Prof. Ulrich Gartzke, Social Work, FHWS

'If Würzburg Knew What Würzburg Knows – Another Day in Paradise'

Stefan Zimmermann, Business Administration, JMU
'Management Lessons'

The slam was introduced by last year’s winner, Charlotte Wermser.

Our presenter:

Once again this year, the Alumni Science Slam was hosted by alumnus Johannes Keppner.

Johannes, what’s the best thing about Science Slams?
Getting a wide variety of fascinating insights into all sorts of scientific disciplines. And, of course, the fact that quite a few lecturers get flustered when they have to keep it short!;)

What’s particularly important when hosting a Science Slam?
Not trying to put yourself in the spotlight – the slammers are the stars.
I’m only there for the staging – the slammers are the ones taking the plunge!

What are you most looking forward to?
The audience’s reactions – and seeing whether the slammers manage to make science, which is sometimes decried as dry as dust, palatable to us.
