Support from lecturers
Lecturers support students with questions regarding academic approaches, formal aspects, difficulties in understanding and provide academic advice.
In personal discussions, individual difficulties can be identified and possible solutions offered to help the student successfully complete their studies - also in the long term.
Counselling sessions are therefore an essential element in the education and development of students' academic competence.
Study counselling
The academic advisors also provide detailed and in-depth information about the programme content and structure.
Target group-specific support
The range of services offered by the academic advisors is complemented by target group-specific support and counselling: In accordance with its mission statement and commitment to student diversity, JMU also supports international students, students with family responsibilities and students with disabilities and chronic illnesses on their way to successfully completing their studies.
The counselling centres at JMU
Lecturers are not the only points of contact for students. JMU offers a variety of special counselling centres that students can access free of charge. Not every counselling centre can provide answers to all types of problems - the areas of responsibility are clearly defined. For issues of a social, legal, or psychological nature, lecturers may therefore refer students to other institutions.
You can find the complete list of JMU advisory services for students with questions that go beyond the advisory role of lecturers here.
