    Conflict management

    Korbinian Riepl

I graduated in Psychology in Würzburg and consequently worked in the HR department of a company with about 2,500 employees. There, I was, amongst others, responsible for manager selection and training, and I was project leader of international employee surveys. In this job I learned a lot about good and inferior management.

Since 2019, I am self-employed as a trainer and coach. In this context, I am working as a conflict counselor in the conflict counseling department of the University of Würzburg since 2022. I finished training for becoming a systemic consultant and completed several conflict management seminars. I enjoy supporting employees to solve conflicts (if possible), or, if the situation cannot be changed, to cope as well as possible with the straining situation. Moreover, I enjoy supporting managers to deal well with own conflicts or conflicts in their team and in how they can act effectful in these situations.

Next to individual counseling, I offer conflict mediations in teams by request of the manager (and if it is constructive). There, we try to analyze all conflicts (especially those which are invisible at first), so that all persons involved develop a common understand of the existing conflicts. This is the basis for solving the conflicts (as far as possible). Consequently, the team members define together (with my moderation) important aspects of the future collaboration.

Especially interesting to me is the analysis of conflicts in an intercultural environment. Since I studied two years abroad (in Italy and in the United States), I had the chance to get to know various cultures intensively. Culture is, however, not limited to nationalities, but team culture or management culture may be equally relevant for occurring conflicts.

Upon request of the client, I counsel in German or English.

In addition to my self-employed work as trainer, coach, and conflict counselor, I am pursuing a PhD at the Institute for Psychology of the University of Würzburg. Thereby I know the advantages and challenges of the university work environment also by own experience.

Of course, the counseling takes place confidentially and compliant with professional secrecy. I only counsel employees outside of the Institute of Psychology.
