Teaching reporting
Basic principles
At faculty level, the Dean of Studies - as stipulated in the Bavarian Higher Education Act (Art. 30 Para. 2-3 BayHSchG) - reports once a year in the teaching report on the situation of studying and teaching at the faculty in the previous academic year. The teaching report is based on subject reports, which take a more detailed look at the study programmes of a subject, as well as various survey results and statistical data, which are made available by the central administration from various data-bearing systems on a specific cut-off date.
Smaller faculties that only cover one or two subjects and can clearly present the quality of individual degree programmes prepare a combined teaching and subject report. Larger faculties subdivide into several subject reports and bundle these into the teaching report.
Objectives of the teaching report
With the teaching report, the faculties make a significant contribution to fulfilling the programme accreditation criteria at faculty and degree programme level. Teaching reporting serves the following objectives:
- Systematic and transparent examination of quality issues
- Derivation of measures for the further development of teaching and learning
- Documentation of developments in the area of teaching and learning
- Basis for the annual discussions between the faculty and university management
- Basis for accreditation
The templates for the various forms of teaching reporting are created by Unit A.3 in consultation with the faculties' quality officers and the Presidential Commission for Quality in Teaching and Learning (PfQ). Unit A.1 contributes the relevant statistical data.
The Vice President for Studies and Teaching sends a letter to the deans of studies of the faculties requesting them to submit their teaching reports. The letter is sent to the deans of studies via Unit A.3 together with the sample templates and statistical data as well as the planned submission deadline.
In faculties that use both teaching and subject reports, the dean of studies forwards the documents for the subject reports to those responsible for the subject and sets the submission deadline so that the subject reports can be used as a basis for the teaching report.
The subject reports are prepared and approved by the respective subject committees and sent to the Dean of Studies by the person responsible for the subject.
The Dean of Studies prepares a draft of the teaching report or the teaching and subject report and is supported in this by the examination boards, the quality officers and the programme coordinators.
The Dean of Studies submits the draft of the teaching and subject report or the teaching report, including the subject reports as annexes, to the Faculty Council and thus submits the report on the situation in studying and teaching at the faculty.
The Faculty Council adopts the teaching report.
The Dean of Studies submits the approved teaching and subject report or the teaching report including the subject reports as attachments in electronic form to Unit A.3. Receipt is confirmed by e-mail.
The teaching report is forwarded by Unit A.3 to the Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Quality Management.
