David Brandstätter led the Universitätsbund Würzburg for almost two decades. For this commitment and for his other services, the university awarded him the title of Honorary Citizen.

At the 2026 Foundation Festival, the University awarded the former District President of Lower Franconia, Dr Eugen Ehmann, the title of Honorary Senator. This is the highest honour awarded by JMU.
