Dr Catharina Bartmann, Privatdozent in the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Oberärztin at the Gynaecology Clinic and Outpatient Clinic, has been appointed as an Associate Professor with effect from 4 September 2026.
Christine Bolz-Rügamer has been employed in Department 3.5 (Construction Control: Building Maintenance and Minor Construction Works) within the central administration since 1 September 2026.
Prof. Dr Ansgar Denner, Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, will retire at the end of September 2026.
Dr Elena Dieser, Chair of Slavic Languages, Literatures and Cultures, is acting head of the chair until the return of its head, Prof. Dr Gesine Drews-Sylla.
PD Dr Johannes Forster, Institute of Hygiene and Microbiology, and Prof. Dr Johannes Liese, Paediatric Clinic and Outpatient Clinic of the University Hospital, are the scientific directors of the 28th Intensive Course in Infectious Diseases organised by the German Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases, which will take place from 24 to 26 September 2026 at the University at Sanderring. More than 400 participants – predominantly paediatricians – have registered for the course. The course is regarded as Germany’s largest continuing professional development event on infectious diseases in children and adolescents.
Bernhard Hartmann has been working in an administrative role at the University Archives since 7 September 2026.
Dr Ernst Kircher, former Academic Director and Adjunct Professor of Physics Education, passed away on 9 August 2026.
Prof. Dr Friedrich Schardt, Faculty of Medicine, who served as an occupational health doctor at JMU from 1975 to 2008, passed away on 15 August 2026. During his time as a junior doctor at the JMU Medical Polyclinic, he specialised in sports medicine and internal medicine; he later added occupational medicine to his areas of expertise. He obtained his doctorate in 1971 and, in 1989, qualified as a professor in sports and occupational medicine with a thesis on acid-base balance during physical exertion.
Dr Jörg Teßmar was transferred to the University of Würzburg with effect from 1 September 2026 and assigned to the Office of Occupational Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Protection within the Central Administration.
Dr Ingrid Teßmer, a private lecturer in the field of biophysics and a member of the academic staff at the Bio-Imaging Centre, was appointed as an adjunct professor with effect from 4 September 2026.
Dr Monika Unterreiner, Akademische Rätin at the Institute of Music Education, has been granted special leave without pay from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027 to take up a temporary professorship at the Karlsruhe University of Education.
Dr Eva Zimmer, Akademische Rätin, Institute of Education, has been appointed Akademische Oberrätin with effect from 1 September 2026.
