Visit to our CHARM-EU alliance partners in Utrecht and Mülheim
12/19/2023In order to experience hybrid classrooms and modern teaching and learning concepts first-hand, a six-person delegation from JMU traveled to Utrecht University (UU) at the beginning of December. UU is one of the founding universities of the CHARM-EU university alliance and has been testing modern didactic methods as part of the CHARM-EU Master's degree program "Global Challenges in Sustainability" since September 2021.
The dialog about technical infrastructures and best practices in hybrid teaching was supplemented by individual discussions with employees from different departments and members of CHARM-EU working groups. One particularly valuable insight was the need for a hybrid classroom (including a room concept, hardware and software) at JMU in order to be able to implement and establish the concepts of challenge-based learning used by CHARM-EU at our university.
The two-day stay in Utrecht was followed by a visit to the Ruhr-West University of Applied Sciences in Mülheim an der Ruhr, which, like Würzburg, is a new member of the CHARM-EU alliance. The delegation had the opportunity to visit various learning spaces designed for innovative didactic methods, including hybrid classrooms, and to ask questions about implementation and testing.
