Every year in February, the Adult Education Academy brings together students, researchers and professionals from the field of adult education at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU). Currently, 85 participants from 22 countries are in Würzburg to discuss trends in lifelong learning in an international comparison.

Adult education makes an important contribution to bringing together people with different experiences and backgrounds. It enables exchange and dialogue and creates a framework that makes it possible to build bridges between different positions.

It is precisely this dialogue that is combined with international insights into adult education every year at JMU as part of the Adult Education Academy. In this way, the university makes an important contribution to UNESCO's Marrakesh Framework for Action, which emphasises the need for academic education and training opportunities for specialists in adult education/continuing education.

Guests Also From War and Crisis Regions

In addition to numerous students from European partner universities, the JMU Academy reaches many participants from outside the European Union. "Our guests also come from war and crisis regions such as Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, the West Bank, Iran and Sudan. We experience the understanding between people from different countries as very beneficial," says Regina Egetenmeyer, Head of the Chair of Adult Education/Continuing Education. Under her direction, the Adult Education Academy has been organised annually in Würzburg since 2014.

The Academy runs until 16 February 2024 and also includes public lectures in English that deal with adult education in various countries. They will take place in the lecture theatre building Z6 at Hubland.
