Conflict management at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) helps employees to resolve tensions constructively and promote respectful cooperation in everyday working life. The tenth anniversary event on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the lecture hall of building Z6 (Hubland South Campus) combines retrospection, exchange and scientifically sound findings. All JMU employees are invited. The event will be held in German.

A Dialogue about Conflict Management

The anniversary provides an opportunity to look back on our shared journey - and to look ahead at the same time: How has the handling of conflicts at the university changed? What experiences have been gained? And what impulses are needed for the future of a respectful, healthy working environment?

In a panel discussion, Dr. Ljubica Lozo will highlight successes, challenges and personal experiences from ten years of practice. JMU Chancellor Dr. Uwe Klug, Professor Andrea Szcesny, Head of the Chair of Business Administration, Controlling and Internal Management Accounting, and conflict management stakeholders will take part in the discussion.

The Psychology of Social Conflicts in the Workplace

Many people have experienced conflict in the workplace. What effects can they have on health and performance? Are there factors that increase or reduce the risk of conflicts occurring?

Professor Roland Deutsch, Head of the JMU Chair of Psychology II, presents scientific research findings on these questions in his lecture "The Psychology of Social Conflict in the Workplace" and shows what conclusions can be drawn from these findings for dealing with conflict in the workplace.

Further Information

To round off the event, everyone is invited to chat over coffee and cake in the Z6 foyer. As the anniversary is taking place on the Day of Prayer and Repentance, JMU is organising a Children's Day for the first time. This will allow parents of schoolchildren to attend the event while their children are looked after on site. In addition, the event will be broadcast live in a separate room for parents who prefer to stay close to their children so that they can attend together.

Following the anniversary, the Day of Teaching 2025 will take place at Z6. This year's motto is "Hey ChatGPT - How does good university teaching actually work?" and in the afternoon it will focus on another central topic of university culture: good, inspiring and fair teaching in times of digital transformation.

All three events offer the opportunity to engage in dialogue, share experiences and gain new impetus for lively, respectful interaction at the university.
