Professional Skills with the Career Centre
09/09/2025For the winter semester 2025/26, the Career Centre has developed a new supplementary course for the Professional Skills Certificate, which is open to all qualification levels. 20 ECTS points will be awarded for this programme.

As a result of advancing globalisation, digitalisation and the associated accelerating change in the labour market, the importance of interdisciplinary, transversal skills on the labour market is constantly increasing. For this reason, the Career Centre at the University of Würzburg is particularly keen to support students at the university in developing their profile as individuals who think and act sustainably, responsibly and innovatively. One component of this is a new additional study programme leading to the Professional Skills Certificate, which is now starting.
The aim of the new certificate programme is to prepare students for the global labour market of the future and to make them aware of professional activities or contexts of action during their studies, some of which do not yet exist or are difficult to plan and predict. Professional skills make it possible to plan and make the necessary adjustments independently.
Communicative Competence and Self-competence
Communicative competence - i.e. the ability to correctly interpret verbal and non-verbal signals, use communication models and techniques in a targeted manner and successfully organise interactions - and self-competence are particularly important. The latter includes the ability to reflect, self-confidence, a sense of responsibility and value-orientation and enables students to react flexibly to new things and actively shape their own life and career paths.
By acquiring the Professional Skills Certificate, which students on Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree programmes can add to their application portfolio, students and employers receive proof that participants have a high degree of self-organisation and decision-making skills in order to best meet the demands of the world of work 4.0.
About the Process
The Professional Skills Certificate consists of 20 ECTS credits, which can be earned over a period of four semesters. A total of ten ECTS points are collected from the compulsory area and ten ECTS points from the compulsory elective area, two of which must be chosen. A total of four modules, each worth five ECTS credits, must therefore be attended. A module or area of competence is made up of three to six courses, which can be selected independently from the semester programme.
The certification programme can be started in both the summer and winter semesters. Students can still apply for the current round until 15 September. To apply, students must complete the application form on the homepage and send it to the Career Centre together with their certificate of enrolment. Ten students will then be selected by lottery.
Further information on the programme can be found here.
