Haven’t heard of a Running Dinner yet?
Then it’s about time!
You and your cooking partner will create one course of a three-course meal—either the appetizer, main course, or dessert, depending on the draw. For this course, you’ll be visited by two other teams (meaning you’ll be cooking for a total of 6 people, including yourselves). For the other two courses, you’ll visit the home of a new team and be treated to a meal there.
You and your cooking partner will always stay together, but you’ll meet new teams for each course. In total, you’ll get to know about 12 new people over the course of the evening!
We’ll start at 6:30 p.m. with the appetizer. The main course will be served starting at 8:00 p.m., and dessert at 10:00 p.m.
A few more important points:
- If you have a choice, please sign up with the more centrally located apartment to keep walking distances as short as possible.
- If you live in a shared apartment, please indicate this on the registration form! Even if you’re the only one from your shared apartment participating. This helps to avoid mistakes in room assignments.
- We’ll send you another reminder email, but planning ahead, going shopping, and marking it in your calendar can’t hurt ;)
- Cancelling is fine, of course, especially before the registration deadline. After that, it gets trickier for us.
Who are we / What is the registration fee for
Hello! The Running Dinner originated at the medical faculty, then the two of us—Jacopo and Jakob—came along and thought we’d like to do this with more degree programs! This is now our fifth university-wide Running Dinner, hoping for the 4,500th registration this semester, and we have developed a deep passion for our favorite event.
The Running Dinner has now become one of the major stuv events. We collaborate with the THWS and the HfM and reach out to all student councils to achieve the largest and most diverse registration possible. We love hearing stories about how the event has led to friendships, relationships, and shared vacations. And that happens all the time—how wonderful! And at the very least: chatting and eating with people you would otherwise never have met during your entire time at university.
We’re a small, motivated organizing team that puts together the Running Dinner and the after-party for you (if you’d like to join us, feel free to reach out!). We designed and distributed the posters and posts, promoted the event at first-semester events and in front of the dining halls, spoke with the various (all) student councils at JMU, THWS, and HfM, wrote this text as well as all the emails, and spent a lot of time on everything involved.
Still, we can no longer manage the team and course assignments manually given our registration numbers—the last few times we had over 700–1,000 students! And while we used to partner with a small startup, we’ve now built a Würzburg-based system with our own registration platform and distribution process. This way, we can react quickly and accurately to cancellations. And because of all this, you pay a manageable two euros per person upon registration.
We hope you have a great time, meet fun people and celebrate with us after!
