Key questions for conceptual development

Fundamental key questions on internationalisation

  • What overarching goal is the faculty pursuing with the internationalisation of the study programme (e.g. strengthening its international reputation, promoting international cooperation, improving students' career prospects)?
  • To what extent is the internationalisation of this degree programme in line with the general international strategy of JMU, particularly with regard to its mission and long-term goals (e.g. expansion of degree programmes taught in English, development of double-degree programmes)?
  • How does the internationalisation of this degree programme support the University's vision of establishing a global network of academic partnerships and strengthening its position in international rankings?

  • What specific strengths and unique selling points of the University of Würzburg (e.g. fields of research, international cooperation, specialist expertise) can be incorporated into the internationalisation of this degree programme?
  • To what extent does the internationalisation of the degree programme contribute to further sharpening the profile of the JMU as an internationally oriented, research-oriented university?
  • Which existing international partnerships or networks (e.g. exchange programmes, research collaborations) could be used to further internationalise the degree programme and how can these be strategically expanded?

  • Which international student groups should be targeted by the internationalisation of the degree programme and what support (e.g. language courses, cultural integration) do they need?
  • What needs of German or international students must be taken into account in order to ensure successful internationalisation (e.g. intercultural training, mobility support, academic supervision)?
  • How can the results of surveys or feedback from international students and faculty members be incorporated into the design of the international programme?

  • How can internationalisation be specifically implemented in the curriculum (e.g. through the introduction of English-language modules, partnerships with international institutions, intercultural projects)?
  • What structural and organisational changes are necessary to successfully establish the international degree programme (e.g. adaptation of examination formats, recognition of academic achievements)?
  • How can the faculty provide the necessary resources (e.g. personnel, infrastructure, financial resources) for the implementation of internationalisation and how can these resources be secured in the long term?

Key questions for the development of the idea sketch

  • To what extent is it possible to systematically integrate international topics, global challenges and interdisciplinary perspectives into the curriculum without losing the subject identity of the degree programme?
  • What specific adjustments to the curriculum are required to convey international perspectives while ensuring academic quality?
  • How can teaching content be designed to give students a deeper understanding of the international dimension of their subject, e.g. by including global case studies or through exchanges with international experts?
  • What interdisciplinary collaborations and approaches can be used to integrate international topics beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines?

  • How can the degree programme be structured in such a way that international students are better integrated through language adaptations (e.g. bilingual modules, English-language seminars) without this leading to a complete switch to English?
  • To what extent can the introduction of English-language courses help to increase the international reach of the degree programme and at the same time meet the needs of local students?
  • What measures are necessary to prepare students for international communication in specialised language and how can these be integrated into the curriculum?

  • What structural and organisational adjustments are required to establish and promote an effective system for international mobility (study visits, internships, research visits)?
  • How can partnerships with international universities and institutions be expanded or newly created in order to provide students with regular access to exchange opportunities?
  • Which funding measures and support systems (e.g. for the recognition of credits, language courses) need to be developed in order to make international mobility attractive and practicable for students?

  • To what extent can the teaching of intercultural skills be established as an integral part of the degree programme and how can this be systematically integrated into curricula, projects and internships?
  • Which didactic concepts and formats (e.g. internationally mixed project groups, intercultural training) are suitable for preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of working together in international and multicultural contexts?
  • What measures (e.g. mentoring and tutoring programmes) can be taken to promote interaction between international and local students and thus create an internationalised learning environment?

  • How can the international dimension of research be integrated into the degree programme, e.g. through the integration of international research projects, guest lecturers or joint scientific publications?
  • What opportunities are there to involve international experts and practitioners in teaching in order to offer a diverse perspective and provide students with practical, global experience?
  • What long-term partnerships can be established at an international level to continuously improve the quality of teaching and research and promote international exchange?

  • How can the international elements in the degree programme be regularly evaluated and checked for quality to ensure that they meet the objectives of internationalisation and the needs of the students?
  • What tools are needed to continuously improve and adapt the internationalisation strategy based on feedback from students and international partner universities?
  • What evaluation methods can be used to measure the impact of internationalisation on graduates' career prospects and on the academic quality of the programme?
