An Action Week of Sustainability
11/25/2025As part of the nationwide Public Climate School, the University of Würzburg is offering a varied programme under the motto "Climate, Education and Democracy" in the week from 24 to 30 November 2025.
The University of Würzburg has been taking part in the nationwide Public Climate School Action Week for several years now. In 2025, the supra-regional action week will be held under the motto "Climate, Education, Democracy". The local programme of the Public Climate School at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) from 24 to 30 November 2025 will focus on various perspectives and issues relating to climate and sustainability.
During this week, numerous lecturers from various Institutes and chairs will open their courses to all those interested in the Public Climate School or offer seminars, lectures and workshops on these topics.
The Supporting and Local Programme
The variety of topics ranges from the scientific foundations of climate change, social, cultural and psychological perspectives, regional and global adaptation strategies and education for sustainable development to interdisciplinary approaches to transformation and career skills.
The local programme offers the following special highlights, among others:
- On Tuesday, two lectures on the potential of citizens' councils and their role in the German political system and on the topic of "(Sustainable) mobility and models".
- On Wednesday, a lecture on climate protection and water change in Lower Franconia as well as insights into the European CO2 border adjustment mechanism and its compatibility with world trade law.
- On Thursday, the citizens' dialogue on "City to Science, Science to Policy" and a workshop on the interactions between gender, environment and climate policy.

The Public Climate School
The nationwide Public ClimateSchool is organised by students, pupils, teachers, scientists and activists who want to bring the topics of "climate education" and "education for sustainable development" to schools, universities and society. The offer also includes an extensive public online programme. The Public Climate School website also contains materials that can be used by lecturers for local implementation.
The Sustainability Laboratory WueLAB
At the University of Würzburg, the Public Climate School is coordinated by the sustainability laboratory WueLAB. All members of the university, from students to alumni, can get involved in WueLAB. They can participate in the transformation process towards social, ecological and economic sustainability in research projects, workshops and exchange forums.
