Public Climate School
From 9 to 15 November 2026, the Public Climate School (PCS) will take place across Germany. Under the motto ‘Learning, understanding and taking action together’, colleges and universities will explore topics relating to education for sustainable development. Alongside nationwide digital events, the programme will be complemented by numerous local activities. The Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg is taking part in the action week for the fifth time, thereby sending a further signal in favour of sustainable development in research and teaching. Coordination is being handled by the WueLAB sustainability laboratory.
Cooperation between Würzburg’s higher education institutions
This year, the three Würzburg higher education institutions – THWS, HfM and JMU – plan to collaborate as part of the PCS. This will allow students to attend events across different institutions. The overview lists all the events that can be attended at the three Würzburg higher education institutions. In addition, there are plans for a joint closing event. Further details will follow – stay tuned!
Teaching staff and students are warmly invited to get involved
Lecturers from all faculties can open their courses to interested students as part of the Public Climate School and give them a sustainability focus. You decide for yourselves to what extent sustainability topics are integrated – from a single discussion question or thematic focus points right through to completely adapting a course. Extracurricular activities for an accompanying programme of events are also expressly welcome. This means that students, student council initiatives and representatives, or departmental offices can also contribute their ideas for events.
Submit events
WueLAB is compiling a list of all participating seminars, lectures and other events to create a joint programme for students, members of Würzburg’s higher education institutions and the interested public. Please submit your event via the event form by 25 October 2026 if possible – thank you very much!

How can I get involved with the Public Climate School?
You can either dedicate your course to the topic of sustainability and open it up to anyone interested as part of the Public Climate School, or organise an additional event for this purpose. Student initiatives are also warmly invited to dedicate their events to the Sustainability Action Week or to organise events for it. Please register your event with us at wuelab@uni-wuerzburg.de (title, date & time, brief description of the topic, type of event, person in charge, venue, is registration required?), so that we can list it here in the overview.
You’re not organising an event of your own, but would still like to raise awareness of the campaign week?
One easy way to raise your students’ awareness of the topic and the action week is, for example , to use the information material and the freely available slides/media pack available on the Public Climate School website.
