The digital learning module Old French is online
12/16/2025On 10 December 2025, those responsible officially launched the digital learning module for Old French. It is now available to all interested parties.
Although Old French was probably the most powerful vernacular language of the European Middle Ages, it is becoming increasingly difficult to learn Old French at German universities. The digital learning module Old French, which was developed as part of a co-operation between the universities of Tübingen and Würzburg, aims to respond to this situation.
It is aimed at students, teachers and researchers who deal with medieval literatures and languages and come into contact with Old French in this context.
The learning module provides basic knowledge of the pronunciation and grammar of Old French as well as insights into the history of language and literature. It presents further textbooks and digital aids for in-depth study of Old French.
On 10 December 2025, the digital learning module for Old French was launched as part of the Medieval Advanced Seminar at the University of Tübingen. Since then, the learning module has been freely accessible. It is suitable for individual study of Old French as well as a supplement to courses. Those interested can access the learning module directly here.
