Terms of Use for the Dr. Herbert Brause Center for Media Literacy (available in German only).
Video studio
The Dr. Herbert Brause Center for Media Literacy building houses a professional multimedia studio with outstanding lighting options. As well as the option to work with customised backdrops, a high-performance video editing computer and a modern, mobile (live) video mixing system are available in the separate control room.
A wide range of production options ...
The video studio’s recording room, which is also connected to the sound studio, is generously proportioned, with an area of 80 square metres and a ceiling height of 8 metres. There are 24 permanently installed spotlights on the ceiling.
In combination with the permanently installed green, white or black curtain system, virtually any conceivable lighting setup can be achieved.
... and output options
The video control room is located behind a glass panel. A videohub allows video and audio signals to be routed between different devices; they can also be mixed using a live video mixing system and broadcast via a live internet stream. In addition, signals can be fed in from other PCs, or signals from the mixer can be recorded on our desktop computers.
Camera systems
The Dr. Herbert Brause Center for Media Literacy has several Full HD and 4K camera systems available (including two Canon XA10s, three Lumix GH5s and three Panasonic AG-DVX200s).
In addition, high-quality tripods, Steadicam systems, a crane, mobile lighting rigs and other equipment can be used for flexible applications.
Editing suites
Two high-quality, state-of-the-art editing workstations are available for video post-production. Both workstations are identically equipped and offer enough space for even small groups to work at a single workstation.
The editing workstations are equipped with multiple displays, including a high-quality, calibrated reference monitor.
Productions up to a resolution of 4K can be handled without any problems. In addition to the visual components, the editing stations are fitted with a high-quality, active monitoring system and the option to connect multiple pairs of headphones. For presentations of video projects, the final results can also be shown via a projector with a separate audio system. The video area is connected to the sound studio via a network, so that video productions can be transferred to the sound studio for further processing.
Recording studio
The recording studio at the Dr. Herbert Brause Center for Media Literacy is designed to be used by both amateurs and audio professionals alike. From simple voice recordings to complex surround sound set-ups, virtually anything can be achieved. In addition to an acoustically optimised recording studio, there is a control room available, which is separated from the recording studio by a glass partition.
Lots of possibilities ...
... the recording studio is equipped to handle a wide variety of projects. For example, the multi-screen display system not only allows text to be projected into the recording room, but also enables film clips to be played back – for instance, to dub videos or create corresponding surround sound mixes. The studio’s design also makes it possible for several people to work on a single project.
Attention: Recording!
When the red recording light in the corridor is on, work is in progress in the studio. As there was no recording light available in XXL size, this too – like so many other things in the studio – was built in-house.
Ease of use
The aim from the very outset of the recording studio’s design was to ensure that the system could be operated even without extensive prior technical knowledge.
Feedback following various successfully conducted seminars confirmed that the planning objective had been achieved. Once users have become familiar with the workflows, nothing stands in the way of creative work.
As requirements increase over the course of the project, more and more of the available studio equipment can, of course, be integrated. This means that even more complex workflows are not restricted.
Computer lab
The computer lab at the Dr. Herbert Brause Center for Media Literacy provides students (not only) in the multimedia field with state-of-the-art computer systems to ensure they can work smoothly.
The individual workstations are equipped with a comprehensive range of software for image editing, video editing, audio editing, etc. A wide selection of freeware and open-source programmes is also available.
In addition to high-resolution monitors, a high-quality audio system is available, enabling students to critically evaluate audio material and make the best possible sound recordings during seminars.
Each computer workstation also has an external audio interface and separate splitters to which up to five pairs of headphones can be connected simultaneously.
Furthermore, the PC lab is equipped with an 86-inch LCD display with UHD resolution and touchscreen functionality for interactive presentations and similar purposes.
