Mobility Forum

21 January 2026 - Kick-off event

On 21 January 2026, the kick-off event of the transformation experiment "Forum Mobility" took place in the seminar rooms of the Mensa am Hubland. By networking relevant stakeholders from academia, administration, the student body and practice, the members of the forum came together for the first time to jointly identify and discuss key issues and fields of action relating to the topic of mobility. All of the participants were committed to their work, contributed different perspectives with great openness and worked together to find realisable solutions.

After a brief introduction of the Mobility Forum and its individual members, the meeting centred on a mutual exchange of views on current challenges, existing initiatives and specific potential solutions for university and city-related mobility issues. In several small groups and then in plenary sessions, the participants discussed public transport connections to the university locations, cycling and walking infrastructure, campus mobility at Hubland and UKW as well as commuter mobility issues. Specific challenges such as bus timetables, data management and cycle paths, as well as initial solutions such as better communication structures, bus connections and the expansion of bicycle parking facilities were collected.

The aim of the forum is now to further analyse the identified topics in the coming meetings in a measure-oriented manner, to pool data and findings and to develop concrete projects and solutions for the university, city and transport partners. The next forum meeting is planned for 29 April 2026 and is intended to involve further stakeholders from universities and practice in order to further expand the networking that has already begun and implement concrete projects together.

The idea

The Mobility Forum is a regular, participatory, cross-status group and interdisciplinary platform. It brings together various initiatives, projects and impulses from the three Würzburg universities on the topic of "mobility". These are jointly analysed and discussed from a research, operational and transfer perspective and - where possible - translated into action. The forum maintains close contact with all relevant decision-makers in the city, society and economy in the region. The central interest is (1) a needs-based change in higher education mobility (to and between locations) with the participation of all stakeholders, (2) the linking and networking of higher education initiatives and (3) the joint initiation of measures with partners from the field.

The forum builds on existing contacts and networks, opens them up to the members of the forum and creates a framework for targeted changes. Decisions are scientifically based.

The Mobility Forum emerged from the Mobility Department of the student's representation and its intensive exchange on local transport issues as part of the student-led mobility partnership.

The first step is to contact the people and organisations that are to become members of the forum. A first meeting of the Mobility Forum is planned for January 2026. Further meetings will follow at quarterly intervals.
