Bachelor’s Programme in Biology

Announcements

  • There are no announcements at this time.

To register for your thesis, you will have to submit a separate registration form to the chairperson of the examination committee. From there, it will be forwarded to the Examination Office. As soon as we receive your registration form, we will enter the details into the system.

Follow the links below for answers to frequently asked questions (available in German only). If your question is not sufficiently answered, please contact the Examination Office!

Confirmation of degree completion to be attached to applications for admission to the Master’s programme:

If you want to apply for admission to the Master’s programme and your graduation documents are not ready in time, you can download a PDF file from the WueStudy portal that confirms that you have successfully completed your degree and shows your overall grade. The document listing the modules you have passed will then state that you have successfully completed your degree and what overall grade you achieved.
Of course, you can only get this confirmation once the grades or results for ALL modules that are required for the completion of your degree have been entered into the system and you have submitted your request to be issued with graduation documents to the Examination Office. As soon as the Examination Office has set the status of your degree to ‘successfully completed’ on the system, a note will be found on the list of the modules you have passed (PDF file) indicating that you have successfully completed your degree. The document will also show your overall grade. To enable you to meet the deadline of 15 March/15 September, the University of Würzburg will accept this PDF file as proof of a completed Bachelor’s degree when you apply for admission to the Master’s programme.

If you are still awaiting the grade for your Bachelor’s thesis but have met all other requirements for the completion of your degree, you have a special option: In justified cases (e.g. if your reviewer is on holiday or absent for a longer period of time), it will be sufficient to submit a letter from your reviewer to the Examination Office that confirms that you will receive a grade of ‘sufficient’ (4.0) or better for your thesis and states that your reviewer will supply your exact grade at a later date.
Once we have received this confirmation, we can issue you with a letter confirming that you have successfully completed your degree. However, this letter will not show an overall grade. In exceptional circumstances, this letter that merely confirms that you have successfully completed your degree may be accepted to ensure compliance with the applicable deadline (15 March/15 September). Of course, this option is only available to you if you have already submitted your Bachelor’s thesis, you supply the letter from your reviewer mentioned above and the grades or results for ALL other modules that are required for the completion of your degree have already been entered into the system!

Degree completion:

The Examination Office will not be notified automatically when you have earned your 180 ECTS credits. Also, remember that you have the option to earn additional credits during the remainder of the semester.

Please submit your request to be issued with graduation documents as soon as you want your graduation documents to be prepared. Once your graduation documents are being prepared, you will lose your entitlement to take assessments in the Bachelor’s programme in Biology, which means that you will not be able to register for and take any further assessments in this programme.

The date on which you passed your last assessment will be shown on your graduation documents as your date of degree completion.

Please make sure you provide your email address on the request form. You will receive an email notification from us when your graduation documents are ready for you to collect.

Graduation documents:

Your degree certificate will be issued by the Examination Office and signed by the chairperson of the competent examination committee. In addition, you will receive a diploma, which will be co¬signed by the Dean of your Faculty.

As soon as the Examination Office has contacted you with the information that your graduation documents are ready for you to collect,

  • you can come to our office to pick them up (please be ready to present an official photo-bearing identification document) or
  • you can have an authorised person collect them for you (please be aware that this person will have to present a letter of authorisation signed by you).

We will send graduation documents by postal mail in exceptional circumstances only.

The standard length of the Bachelor’s programme in Biology is six semesters. The examination regulations provide that you are permitted to exceed this standard length by two semesters. After that, you will be deemed to have failed your first attempt to successfully complete your degree. After one additional semester, you will be required to terminate the programme with no award.

The section below tells you what the Examination Office will do at the end of the semesters in question if you have not completed your degree yet:

At the end of your 6th semester: no reaction from the Examination Office

At the end of your 7th semester: no reaction from the Examination Office

At the end of your 8th semester:
If you have submitted your Bachelor’s thesis already: You will receive a letter from the Examination Office informing you that you have failed your first attempt to successfully complete your degree. This letter will have no effect on the ECTS credits you have already completed or are yet to complete. The purpose of the letter is to let you know that you have only one more semester to complete your degree!

If you haven’t submitted your Bachelor’s thesis yet: You will receive a letter from the Examination Office informing you that you have failed your first attempt to successfully complete your degree. This letter will tell you that you are deemed to have failed your first attempt at your Bachelor’s thesis (which means that you will have only one more attempt at it!!!). The letter will have no effect on any of the other ECTS credits you have already completed or are yet to complete. In addition, the letter will let you know that you have only one more semester to complete your degree!

At the end of your 9th semester: You will receive a letter from the Examination Office informing you that you will be required to terminate the programme with no award.

(Since you have until the end of each of these semesters to complete your degree, you will not receive these letters until the beginning of the subsequent semester. However, this will have no effect on your status as having failed your first attempt to successfully complete your degree or being required to terminate the programme with no award even if you have previously successfully re-enrolled to continue your studies in your 10th semester. Please read the information provided by Student Affairs about refunds of semester fees!)

Can these deadlines be extended?

The examination committee may grant you an extension, provided that your failure to meet the original deadline is for reasons beyond your control. You may submit your request for the extension of the submission deadline for your Bachelor’s thesis during your 8th subject semester. Requests for the extension of your maximum period of study cannot be submitted until you are halfway into your 9th subject semester.

Please get in touch immediately if you have any problems registering for assessments online - you can contact us in person, over the phone or by email. Any problems reported after the registration deadline will not be accommodated.

Examination Office staff will not be able to register you for assessments after the registration deadline!

All registrations for assessments must be made through the web portal.
