Four Guided Tours: Unique Objects and Their Stories
09/09/2025The Würzburg University Library's #einzigartig series continues on 23 September: four guided tours in German language revolve around extraordinary objects and the stories they tell.
The series, which can be visited free of charge, starts on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, at 18:00 with the guided tour "Around the world in pictures". Illustrated travelogues from the 18th and 19th centuries will be presented - an expedition into times gone by, when travelling was less about relaxation and more about exploring distant countries, their flora and fauna. One highlight: Ernst von Bibra's sketchbook, which he drew in his own hand on his South American journey in 1849.
On Thursday, 23 October 2025, at 19:00, everything revolves around historical criminal cases. Under the title "Bloody Traces - True Crimes from Past Centuries", participants will search for clues using historical documents and learn more about spectacular "true crime" cases such as the Hölzerlips gang, which wreaked havoc on the banks of the River Main.
The guided tour "Ladies' Choice" (Friday, 28 November 2025, 19:00) does not focus on famous men, but on very real, but also legendary women such as Pope Joan, whose picture can even be found in Schedel's World Chronicle.
The exhibition will conclude on Thursday, 11 December 2025 at 18:00 with a virtual tour of Würzburg city centre. The guided tour "Hertie, Kupsch and Co." presents photographs, rare brochures and advertising material from former shops and department stores that no longer exist today.
