Pedagogy

Sabrina Amend

I have been studying education at the University of Würzburg since the 2018/19 winter semester. As I have always wanted to advise and support other people in difficult situations, it was clear to me after graduating from high school that I would study education. After my bachelor's degree in education, I plan to study for a master's degree in educational science in Würzburg.

Pedagogy students mainly learn about theories of upbringing, education and socialisation, the basic concepts of pedagogy. However, they also learn how to plan, conduct and analyse an educational science study based on their own small projects. After graduating, you can work in daycare centres or schools, particularly in all-day care. Another classic option is to work in a counselling centre, for example family counselling, addiction counselling or bullying counselling.

Political and Social Studies

Benedikt White

I started studying Political and Social Studies with a minor in History at the University of Würzburg in the 2017/2018 winter semester and have been studying Political and Social Studies as a single subject since the 2018/2019 winter semester. After graduating from high school, I was unsure what I should study. However, my favourite subject at school was history and I have always been interested in political events. I am currently in the 4th semester of my single subject degree programme.

When studying political science and sociology, students mainly deal with the structure of a state and how to compare them with each other, with the structure of the international system and how to deal with statistics and the sociological analysis of documents. Career opportunities are varied and depend not least on individual interests. Some popular areas are journalism, consultancy work in politics and business or research.

Psychology

Berit Barthelmes

I have been studying Psychology (B.Sc.) since the winter semester 2017/18. Alongside my studies, I work as a student assistant. There's a lot coming up next year: I'm writing my Bachelor's thesis and going to France for a semester abroad. I'm currently doing an internship in the field of business psychology at a management consultancy.

Psychology is the study of human experience and behaviour. In this context, it researches basic psychological functions such as perception, learning, memory, language, emotions and the control of behaviour. Psychology is also concerned with research into social factors influencing human behaviour and the mental, social and emotional development of people over the course of their lives. It also deals with research into personality traits and inter-individual differences in experience and behaviour, including research into mental disorders.

Psychology

Victoria Puls

It was clear to me relatively early on that I wanted to study psychology after leaving school. And not necessarily because I had a specific career in mind that would require me to study psychology, but because I was fascinated by the diversity of the subject from the very beginning. And fortunately, it still does since I started studying in the summer semester of 2019.

Psychology is the science of human experience and behaviour. As indicated, it therefore covers many different subject areas and is therefore very varied. Contents range from the functioning of visual perception and the development of conscience to the emergence of prejudice and peer pressure. That's why it's not a bad thing if you haven't yet decided exactly what career you want to pursue. After all, the possibilities after graduation are just as wide-ranging as the subject itself and you can familiarise yourself with all areas during your studies.
