Geography

Jasmin Gebhard

In the winter semester 2013/2014, I started studying geography and French to become a secondary school teacher at the University of Würzburg. I completed school and geography internships - so my interest in geography grew more and more, which is why I gave up my teacher training programme. I am aiming for a Master's degree in Applied Physical Geography.

The special thing about geography is that it combines many areas from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. Geographers acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the nature of the earth and deal with the earth as a space of human activity. They learn to think analytically and synthetically in order to analyse environmental systems from a social or environmental policy perspective, for example. Because geography is so broad, students can specialise according to their interests and integrate courses in botany, economics or computer science into their studies, for example.

History and philosophy

Nathalie Pfeuffer

The fact that I am now studying history and philosophy in Würzburg is actually a coincidence. After graduating from BNG Marktheidenfeld in 2017, I actually wanted to study veterinary medicine; unfortunately, I was too late to apply. So to spend the year in a "meaningful" way, I enrolled at the University of Würzburg - it only took me a week to fall in love with my degree programme.

History and philosophy are two independent subjects that can also be studied in other combinations. Studying history means using historical evidence to get as close as possible to the reality of the five major sub-disciplines at the University of Würzburg and to research them. Philosophy as a subject deals with questions about the conditions of human thought, cognition and action, and paves the way for students to understand complex interrelationships through extensive reading of philosophical works.

Media communication

Pascal Seidel

After training as an industrial clerk, I started studying media communication in the winter semester of 2016. Alongside my studies, I work as a student trainee in the marketing department of a service provider in the field of renewable energies. I expect to write my bachelor's thesis there on the topic of personnel marketing.

Media communication in Würzburg basically consists of four sub-areas: Communication Psychology and New Media, Media and Business Communication, Media Informatics and Media Psychology. Thanks to the interdisciplinary structure of the programme, there are no limits to your career after completing your Bachelor of Science. Whether in the media industry, communications, market research or journalism: MK graduates are in demand everywhere. If you don't want to start your career directly after your Bachelor's degree in the form of a traineeship, traineeship or direct entry, you can do a Master's in Media Communication at JMU.
