With this award, the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs recognise the University Library’s outstanding commitment to collaborating with schools and to fostering literacy, media and information literacy.

The seal was awarded on 22 October 2026 at the Bavarian State Library in Munich. It was presented to a total of 70 Bavarian libraries. Katrin Fernandez, a member of staff at the Information Centre, accepted the award on behalf of the University Library of Würzburg.

Wide-ranging commitment to schools

The University Library has been working for many years as an educational partner for schools in Lower Franconia and neighbouring regions:

  • Through library induction sessions and practical courses on information literacy, it provides pupils with early access to academic information resources.
  • It teaches the basics of literature research and how to approach information critically.
  • It supports teachers in planning their lessons by providing supplementary digital learning materials.
