Media: Research at the University of Würzburg in the press
02/17/2026Whether on television, radio, online or in print - researchers at the University of Würzburg are always well represented in the media. Here are some recent examples.
Pain therapy: Poor posture, lack of exercise and tension can all be causes of back pain. However, there are also persistent, popular myths. An eight-page cover story in STERN magazine is dedicated to these. Eight experts present their research. Among them: Stefan Lindner, physiotherapist and sports scientist at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Pain Medicine at the University Hospital of Würzburg. In the article, he describes how virtual reality can be used to treat chronic back pain. The article can be read in STERN issue 5/2026 from 29 January.
Communication psychology: How do we perceive the world? How far do our feelings deviate from the facts? These are the questions addressed in a Quarks programme produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk in collaboration with Hessischer Rundfunk. Professor Markus Appel, Head of the JMU Chair of Psychology of Communication and New Media, is an expert on the programme. In Quarks, he explains the negativity bias, among other things. This states that people tend to seek out negative information and remember it better than positive information. The programme from 5 February 2026 can be found in the ARD media library.
