Anyone studying at the University of Würzburg who is planning a study trip or an internship in Italy, the USA or another country should keep Tuesday 23 June 2026 free: On this day, the University’s International Office is once again organising the International Evening from 6.00 pm to 10.30 pm – at the Hubland Sports Centre.

The focus of the evening will be on first-hand information about stays abroad: Würzburg students who have already been abroad or who come from abroad themselves will be sharing their personal tips, experiences and impressions at information stands.

Certificates and challenge cups

The event is also of interest to university staff wishing to gain international experience: seven graduates of the “UNIversInternational” programme will be presented with their certificates during the evening. The programme enhances the skills of JMU’s academic support staff to better advise and support international students, researchers and visitors. One module consists of work-related further training and professional development abroad.

In addition, the university’s internal challenge cups for the 2026 Würzburg Residenzlauf will be awarded. They will go to the fastest university teams in the five- and ten-kilometre races. The award recognises the participants’ joint effort, team spirit and special commitment.

Music, dance and fire show

The supporting programme for the International Evening is also appealing: there will be international music and performances by dance groups. Those with a playful streak can let off steam playing Kubb, probably better known as ‘Viking chess’. A highlight later in the evening is the fire show.

Food and drinks are available at various stalls. Attendance is free and no registration is required. Just turn up!

Exhibition by the Centre for Languages

This year’s guest is the Centre for Languages (ZFS) with the exhibition: “The ZFS Writes – Creative Writing at the Centre for Languages”.

On display are the results of a special, cross-linguistic teaching project: under the title “The ZFS Writes”, students from various ZFS language courses have written creative poems and short texts in small groups. They were guided step by step by their lecturers – from initial ideas and collections of words right through to the finished text. This resulted in a diverse range of multilingual contributions that reflect the learners’ creativity and perspectives.

These texts will be presented at the ZFS stand; visitors are invited to vote for their favourites. That very evening, the three most popular entries will be honoured at an awards ceremony.

Advice for those interested in Africa

The University of Würzburg’s Africa Competence Centre (ACCUW) will also have a stand at the International Evening. Anyone interested in studying, doing an internship or undertaking a research stay in Africa can find comprehensive information there.

The Sports Centre at the Hubland Süd campus is easily accessible by public transport: take bus route 114 to the ‘Universität Sportzentrum’ stop, or routes 7, 10 and 214 to the ‘Äußeres Hubland’ stop.
