"Ausgesprochen": Exhibition on sustainable urban development
09/01/2026How the City and the University of Würzburg can work together to shape a sustainable future: this is the theme of the travelling exhibition “Ausgesprochen”, which is now on display in the foyer of the University at Sanderring.
As part of a transformation experiment launched at WueLAB, four city-university partnerships worked together for several months to develop solutions for sustainable urban development. The pairs of researchers focused on urban biodiversity, education for sustainable development, communication and public relations, and the theme of ‘Museums & Libraries as Third Places’.
The transformation experiment focused in particular on the following research questions:
- How can effective communication between the city administration and the research community be achieved?
- How can scientific findings be integrated into the practical tasks of the city administration, and how can practical administrative experience influence research topics and methods?
The travelling exhibition ‘Ausgesprochen – Transformationslabor Stadt und Universität Würzburg’ documents the work of the tandem projects in German language. It is on display from now until 30 November 2026 in the foyer of the University at Sanderring. To date, it has already been on display at the Würzburg Museum im Kulturspeicher, in the JMU Z6 lecture hall building and at the Würzburg Town Hall.
Rethinking urban development
Anja Schlömerkemper, Vice-President of the University of Würzburg: “Through images, texts, quotations and short videos, the exhibition illustrates how cooperation between academia and the city administration opens up new avenues for action-oriented and science-based perspectives on sustainable urban development.”
Lord Mayor Martin Heilig has accompanied and supported this innovative project from the very beginning: “The exhibition is not only intended as a record of our joint work, but also as a platform for exchange, reflection and new impetus for future transformation processes that will drive our city forward.”
