11:00 a.m."The Activities of the Bavarian-Indian Centre BayInd", Graduate Schools, Paradeplatz 4, Room 407

Dr. Daniel Werner, Managing Director of BayIND, will talk about the cooperations between Bavaria and India, in particular about the partnership between the states of Bavaria and Karnataka. He will introduce the Bavarian-Indian Centre and speak about its activities in the fields of university and business cooperation. He will discourse shortly about the Bavarian university centres. Dr. Werner will also focus on how BayIND can be of assistance to or cooperate with the participants in the Bavarian-Indian cross-border context.

The Bavarian-Indian Centre for Business and University Cooperation (BayIND) coordinates and facilitates the cooperation with India for the Bavarian State Ministry of Sciences, Research and the Arts. The centre acts as a central service institution for commercial enterprises, students, researchers and universities. BayIND aims at further developing and expanding the networks and cooperations between Bavarian and Indian business enterprises, universities and research and technology institutions.

1:15 p.m. "BayHost - University Cooperation with Eastern Europe" and "UN-Peacekeeping - International conflict management", Graduate Schools, Paradeplatz 4

Insight views in international working fields, Round Table with the two topics of university cooperation and international politics. In the first section Dr. Tanja Wagensohn of BayHost (Managing Director, Academic councillor at the University of Regensburg and election observer for the OSZE) will present the Bavarian University Centre for middle, east and south-east of Europe (BayHost), which is an institution of all bavarian universities, universities for applied sciences, universities of art and music and its projects.

In the second section Dr. Martina Wagensohn will discuss one of the special functions of the United Nations, the UN-Peacekeeping, to give an insight view to the subject with regard to its current situation in the world and its historical background.

6:00 p.m. "Religious symbols in German public schools - Legal and cultural issues", Dr. Jan-Christoph Marschelke, GSiK Project of the University of Wuerzburg, Graduate Schools, Paradeplatz 4, Room 407

"Multicultural societies offer opportunies and challenges for living together. The debate about religious symbols in German public schools represents an interesting example with European dimensions. In this  workshop we want to discuss some of the issues from an 
interdisciplinary perspective: legal, cultural, political."
