Women's Football: Champions With the University President
10/21/2025JMU President Paul Pauli welcomed the Würzburg students who won the women's football title at the European University Championships this summer.
Early August 2025: The Würzburg universities' women's football team wins the title at the European University Football Championships 2025 in Camerino, Italy - for the second time in a row. University President Paul Pauli congratulated the victorious team and its support staff at a small reception in the Senate Hall on the Sanderring.
As a gift, the President presented the champions with rucksacks bearing the University's logo. Together with Vice-Chancellor Klaus Baumann, he then entered into dialogue with the guests.
They learned that the successful Würzburg team wants to compete in the European University Championships in Salerno (Italy) in 2026 to defend their title. The chances of a treble should be good: When asked which of the players will be back next year, almost all of them responded.
Partner University of Top-class Sport
On behalf of the Sports Centre, Professor Olaf Hoos thanked the President for the University's continued willingness to support top-class sport at JMU. This is no longer a matter of course at many universities.
The University of Würzburg has been a "Partner University of Elite Sports" since 2002. This is based on an agreement signed by JMU, the Technical University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt, the Studierendenwerk Würzburg and the General German University Sports Association.
In the agreement, the universities guarantee that they will accommodate top athletes as far as possible in order to enable them to combine their studies and sport - for example, if examination dates clash with competitions or regular participation in seminars is not possible.
