Universitätsbund: Winter lecture series gets underway
09/08/202680 talks in 29 towns and parishes across the region: as part of the winter lecture series, JMU researchers will be presenting their work to the public. It begins on 15 September.
The Universitätsbund Würzburg e.V. is the association of friends and supporters of the University of Würzburg. It supports numerous projects at JMU and awards prizes and scholarships from its foundations. It also organises the winter lecture series (in German language).
The series is also known as‘Hörsaal on Tour’: it is aimed at the general public, showcases the diversity of research topics at the university and takes JMU out of Würzburg and into the surrounding area. Admission to all lectures is free.
Sleep Optimisation and Life in the Jungle
During the 2026/27 winter term, 80 informative and entertaining lectures will take place in 29 towns and villages across the region – from Arnstein to Wiesentheid. The topics cover medicine, law and economics, history, the natural sciences and the humanities.
Among other things, the researchers will speak about sleep optimisation, life in the jungle and artificial intelligence. Audiences can also explore Franconian regional history. They will hear about rebellious female composers and be treated to a concert. And they will learn interesting facts about power, personality and society, as well as the treatment of lower back pain.
The Origin of the Cosmos
The lecture series begins on Tuesday 15 September 2026 at 7.00 pm in Marktbreit, in the Rathausdiele, with a lecture by Professor Christian Klingenberg (Mathematics): ‘How the cosmos came into being – simulations on a supercomputer’ (in German language).
