Winter Lectures Bring Knowledge From the University to the Region
09/09/2025Offended politicians, rebellious female composers, linguistically self-confident Lower Franconians: the public winter lectures of the Universitätsbund offer a colourful range of topics.
The Universitätsbund, the society of friends and sponsors of the University of Würzburg, supports numerous projects at JMU and awards prizes and scholarships from its foundations. It also organises the winter lectures (in German language), which are aimed at the general public in the region under the motto "Hörsaal on Tour". It showcases the diversity of research and publicises the university - this time with a total of 64 lecture evenings. Admission is free.
Wide Variety of Topics
In the winter semester 2025/26, the lectures will take place in 20 cities and municipalities. The lecturers will present generally understandable topics from almost all subject areas.
The lectures will cover topics such as insulting politicians, artificial intelligence for a greener future and research into hospital infections. The audience can immerse themselves in Franconian regional history as well as the European Union. They will hear about rebellious female composers (including a concert) and autonomous driving, but also learn interesting facts about cannabis, psychedelics and ketamine.
Kick-off in Bad Neustadt / Saale
The series kicks off on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, at 7 p.m. in Bad Neustadt an der Saale in the Bildhäuser Hof with a lecture by Dr Gerrit Himmelsbach from the Chair of Regional History (Franconian History in the Middle Ages and Modern Times). He will talk about "Country and city around 1600 on historical maps".
