The Welz-Haus opens door and gate
05/05/2026Employees of the University of Würzburg can visit the Welz-Haus on Tuesday, 12 May. Guest rooms and function rooms are free to visit on this day.
Welz-Haus, a historic building with charm, is located in the immediate vicinity of Juliusspital and Schelling-Forum, just a few minutes from the train station and Sanderring.
It has served as a guest house for the University of Würzburg since 2016. With its 20 flat rooms, the Welz-Haus offers academics from all over the world a temporary home for the duration of their stay in Würzburg. Those travelling with their families can rent a large two-room flat with separate bathrooms.
The Welz-Haus: guest house, conference centre and venue for art exhibitions
Applications are no longer required for bookings. Stays ranging from a few nights to long-term rentals over several months or years can be booked directly online via the registration portal. It is still possible to apply for funding from the Siebold-Collegium Institute for Advanced Studies (SCIAS).
The Welz-Haus is also suitable as a conference venue: the Siebold lecture theatre on the first floor is equipped with modern conference technology and leather armchairs. In combination with the lounge, for standing receptions or coffee breaks, the two floors provide ideal conditions for special events such as guest lectures, committee meetings, appointment procedures, award ceremonies or honours.
Thanks to the SCIAS, art exhibitions can be enjoyed in the common rooms every six months. Works by the artist Wolfgang J. Langmandel are currently hanging in the corridors until 3 July 2026.
Anyone who occasionally accommodates guests in Würzburg, selects venues for events or is simply interested in taking a look inside the Welz-Haus is invited to visit on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, between 8 am and 4 pm, to get their own impression of the premises. The offer is aimed at employees of the University of Würzburg.
For better planning, the Uni Würzburg GmbH, which manages the Welz-Haus, asks for feedback via the form. Those interested can also visit the Welz-Haus spontaneously for a cup of coffee on 12 May.
