Under Pressure: Videos of the lecture series
09/01/2026Anyone who missed the lecture series on democracy, trust and the public sphere can now watch some of the lectures online.
In the summer term of 2026, the GSiK (Global Systems and Intercultural Competence) teaching programme at the University of Würzburg organised a series of lectures entitled ‘Under Pressure: On Democracy, Trust and the Public Sphere’ (in German language). Some of the lectures can now be viewed online on the GSiK website.
The series attracted considerable interest with its topical and internationally relevant themes – and sent a strong signal regarding the need to address the challenges facing democratic societies.
Continuation planned for the winter term
Andreas Dörpinghaus, Head of the GSiK programme and Vice-President of the University, emphasises the importance of the format: “The tremendous response shows just how important open spaces for guidance and exchange are in challenging times,” said the professor.
The lecture series also underscored that academia, as an analytical compass, plays an indispensable role, particularly in times of growing uncertainty.
Andreas Dörpinghaus has therefore announced that the series will continue in the 2026/27 winter term. The focus will then shift more towards opportunities, visions and courses of action, thereby consciously broadening the debate on democracy to include constructive approaches.
