Where is the book I’m looking for? Where can I find a group study room or the nearest book return point? With UBW.Maps, the University Library of Würzburg now offers an innovative digital navigation tool that makes it much easier for users to find their way to books, study spaces and services.

The direct link to the library catalogue is particularly handy: anyone searching for a book from the Central Library’s open-access collection can view its location on an interactive map – right down to the exact shelf section – and be guided there. For items from the branch libraries, the respective library location is shown on the map.

But UBW.Maps can do even more: whether it’s a group study room, a lecture theatre, the textbook collection, a water dispenser or toilets, numerous facilities can be located with ease. It is also possible to navigate between different library locations. The interactive maps offer flexible 2D and 3D views and make it easier to find your way around the buildings.

A student request fulfilled

The idea for UBW.Maps originated in the University Library’s Study Grant Committee, where students expressed a desire for simpler and more modern ways of finding their way around the library buildings.

In an extensive, cross-departmental project and in close collaboration with the provider MazeMap, the University Library implemented this suggestion. Numerous staff members from various areas of the library were involved in the planning and technical implementation. The result is a digital service that meets students’ needs whilst also benefiting all users.

Available as an app or via a web browser

With UBW.Maps, the University Library of Würzburg is expanding its range of digital services and making its extensive collections, study spaces and facilities even more accessible. The system is based on the MazeMap application and is available free of charge via a web browser and as an app for Android and iOS.
