The #einzigartig event series continues

02/10/2026

In 2026, the University Library of Würzburg will once again be presenting special items from its special collections to the public.

The Würzburg University Library (UB) is continuing its successful #einzigartig event series in February 2026. The focus is on extraordinary objects from the special collections that are rarely accessible to the public and provide special insights as cultural testimonies of their time.

In four themed events, visitors will have the opportunity to get to know these unique pieces up close and discover their multi-layered stories - between scholarship and everyday culture, individual memory and urban history.

The dates

This year's series will kick off on Friday, 27 February 2026, at 6 p.m. with the guided tour "Everything that is crazy: particularly strange, amusing and eccentric books from the special collections of Würzburg University Library". Unusual works that play with irony, curiosity and originality will be presented - from bizarre biographies and strange maps to books that deliberately break with the idea of what a book actually is.

On Thursday, 19 March 2026, at 6 p.m., the focus will be on two personal friendship albums under the title "Friendship to turn the pages - two Würzburg albums from the 19th century". Handwritten entries, drawings and embroidery make these albums unique testimonies to lived relationships and individual remembrance practices of the 19th century.

The tour continues on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at 6 p.m. with "Speed dating - Würzburg personalities on the trail". In short, pointed stations, participants will meet important figures from the city's history such as Felix Dahn and Agnes Sapper and explore the question of where their traces are still visible today - in the cityscape as well as in their publications.

The first part of the series will conclude on Thursday, 23 July 2026 at 6.00 pm with the event "Darf's noch etwas Süßes sein? Summer dishes from four centuries". Selected handwritten and printed cookery books will provide a cultural and historical insight into the eating habits of past centuries - from summer starters to main courses and sweet finishes.
