Cancer immunotherapy: The body’s own cells as precision medicine

11/03/2026

Modern cancer medicine is undergoing a paradigm shift. How great is the potential of modern immunotherapies? And what are their limitations? Professor Michael Hudecek will be discussing these issues at the Schelling Forum.

Am 12.11. geht es im Schelling-Forum um die Zukunft der Krebstherapie.

CAR-T cell therapy involves reprogramming the body’s own immune cells so that they can specifically recognise and attack cancer cells. This highly personalised therapy opens up new treatment options, particularly for patients with blood cancer, whilst largely sparing healthy tissue.

In his lecture, Professor Michael Hudecek provides fascinating insights into how this innovative form of therapy works: what is the potential of modern immunotherapies, and where do their limitations lie? As one of the world’s leading centres in this field, how is Würzburg University Hospital helping to shape the future of CAR-T cell therapy?

Drawing on his experience at the Fraunhofer Society and in the biotech sector, Hudecek will demonstrate how groundbreaking research findings give rise to innovative therapies, and how these make their way from the laboratory to patients. Following his talk, he will be in conversation with the Chairman of the Vogel Foundation, Dr Gunther Schunk – and will be more than happy to engage with the audience too!
