The Office of the University Women's Representative (UFB) has contributed to the publication of an anthology and a conference volume. In the publications, the team shows how scientific expertise and practical equality work can be combined to initiate sustainable change.

Equality as the basis of good science

Equality, diversity and fair career paths are no longer just visions of the future, but key prerequisites for excellent research and an inclusive university culture. With advice, mentoring, scholarship programmes and the contact point against sexual harassment, the UFB makes a significant contribution to breaking down structural barriers and empowering female academics.

In addition, the UFB and the Diversity Coordination Centre are members of the EDI (Equality and Diversity) Working Group of the COIMBRA Group. This group is a university alliance founded in 1985 that promotes the internationalisation and cooperation of member universities in various areas, such as equality and diversity.

The EDI Working Group has produced the anthology "Why EDI Matters: Equ(al)ity, Diversity and Inclusion in European Universities". The 376-page volume was published by the University of Padua. It can be downloaded free of charge as an open access pdf from their website.

#WueSeeYou: Visibility for diverse career paths

With the #WueSeeYou project, the UFB shows how gender equality work can be organised innovatively: Students are given multimedia insights into everyday university life and get to know role models who belong to underrepresented groups.

This initiative is an example of modern, diversity-sensitive visibility work. The UFB presents it in the conference proceedings "Innovative - Excellent - Visible: Women in Science, Business and Society". More than 40 contributions from science, business, media and practice illustrate how diverse the approaches to increasing the visibility of women are.

The volume can be downloaded free of charge as an open access pdf (in German) from the website of the "Innovative Women in Focus" initiative.

Female professors wanted for #WueSeeYou

The UFB is continuing the #WueSeeYou project as part of the Female Professors Programme 2030, for which JMU has successfully qualified. The aim remains to make positive examples of gender equality and diversity visible. To this end, the UFB is looking for female professors from all departments who would like to share their professional careers in an interview.

Anyone interested in taking part in the #WueSeeYou project can contact Leon Schleier at the UFB, leon.schleier1@uni-wuerzburg.de

Gender equality policy as a central component of universities

"Whether it's international networking, academic publications or local projects - at JMU we show how equality can be actively practised and shaped," says Professor Helga Stopper, JMU's Commissioner for Gender Equality in Science and the Arts. "The two new publications emphasise that gender equality policy is not just a normative goal, but a central building block for a modern, efficient and fair university."
