Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. A diagnosis can raise many questions for patients and treating physicians: What information do certain MRI examinations or fusion biopsies of the prostate provide? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different treatment approaches? And what should be done if the cancer has already spread or returns years after the initial treatment?

The Prostatakarzinom-Zentrum at the University Hospital of Würzburg (UKW), certified by the German Cancer Society (DKG), will hold its 8th Information Day on April 18, 2026. In cooperation with the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Mainfranken and the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) WERA, the event is aimed at patients and anyone else who is interested. Between 10:00 a.m. and approximately 2:15 p.m., nine experts will give short presentations that are understandable to laypeople, providing an overview of the current options for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of this common tumor disease.

Imaging techniques and combination therapies

“Modern imaging techniques are now considered standard in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, while new developments in surgery and radiation therapy are expanding the range of treatments available,” reports Professor Hubert Kübler, Director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Urology and Pediatric Urology at UKW. His deputy, Dr. Anna Katharina Seitz, adds: “Especially for patients with metastatic prostate cancer, we now have many effective drugs and combination therapies at our disposal.”

Speakers from various disciplines

Close interdisciplinary cooperation is essential for the comprehensive patient care offered at the Prostatakarzinom-Zentrum. This is also reflected in the speakers at the information day. In addition to urology, they come from the fields of diagnostic and interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, and radiation oncology. Self-help groups also play an important role as partners.

At the end of the event in the lecture hall of the Zentrum für Operative Medizin (ZOM) on Oberdürrbacher Straße, attendees will have the opportunity to ask personal questions in direct conversation with the specialists. The event will be held in German.

Participation in the patient information day is free of charge. The detailed program is available at www.ukw.de/urologie under the heading “Events”.
