Dr Wolfgang Brückner, University Professor of German Philology and Folklore from 1973 to 1998, passed away on 20 January 2026 at the age of 95.
Prof. Dr Angelika Erhardt-Lehmann, Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy, will continue to be employed as a university professor (W 2) for clinical anxiety research for a limited period until 31 January 2027. She will continue to be granted special leave of 75%, with a pro rata loss of employer's benefits, to continue her research group at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich.
Dr Anton Freund, Junior Professor, Institute of Mathematics, has been reappointed Junior Professor of Mathematics (Mathematical Logic) at the University of Würzburg with effect from 1 April 2026.
Dr Verena Frings, Specialist in Dermatology and Venereology, additional qualification in Allergology, Gemeinschaftspraxis PartGmbB Hautärzte Würzburg, has been granted venia legendi in the field of "Dermatology and Venereology" with effect from 14 January 2026.
Dr Gülmisal Güder, Associate Lecturer in Internal Medicine, Senior Physician, Medical Clinic and Polyclinic I, was appointed Adjunct Professor with effect from 15 January 2026.
Dr Saskia-Laureen Herbert, Senior Physician, Women's Clinic and Polyclinic, was has been granted venia legendi in the field of "Gynaecology and Obstetrics" with effect from 20.01.2026.
Dr Oliver Herbort, Associate Lecturer in Psychology, Senior Academic Councillor, Institute of Psychology, was appointed Adjunct Professor with effect from 14 January 2026.
Dr Silke Neuhaus-Eckhardt, Junior Professor, Institute of Mathematics, has been reappointed Junior Professor of Mathematics (University Didactics) at the University of Würzburg with effect from 17 February 2026.
Dr Matthias Scheich, Privatdozent in Otorhinolaryngology, Managing Senior Physician, Clinic and Polyclinic for Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, was appointed "Associate Professor" with effect from 20.01.2026.
Martin Schuhmann, Akademischer Oberrat, Information Technology Centre - Area 2: Applications, has been appointed Akademischer Direktor with effect from 15.01.2026.
Sarah Straßburger, Regierungsrätin, Office of Academic Regulations, has been granted lifetime appointment into civil service with effect from 1 February 2026.
Prof. Dr Arnulf Thiede passed away on 17 December 2025 at the age of 83. Born in Berlin, he was Full Professor of Surgery and Director of the Surgical University Hospital in Würzburg from 1991 until his retirement in 2008. An obituary from the University Hospital can be read here.
